Chancel Mbemba's journey from Kinshasa to European football success

The captain of the Democratic Republic of Congo's soccer team, Chancel Mbemba, has been told he's not needed by Marseille's new coach, Roberto De Zerbi. But finding a new job shouldn't be hard for the 29-year-old player.

Despite one coach's decision, Mbemba is highly valued in the football world. He's known for his strong defense skills, playing well as both a center and full-back, and even as a defensive midfielder.

Mbemba has shown his talent not only by playing for his country in the Africa Cup of Nations but also for clubs like Anderlecht, Newcastle United, FC Porto, and Marseille.

In his first year at Marseille, Mbemba won an award for being the best African player in the French league.

He still has a year left on his contract but wants to leave, disappointing Marseille fans who admire his skilled and smart playing style.

Mbemba is quiet but friendly, preferring smiles over words. He has a special bond with Cheik Tioté, his "big brother" from Newcastle, who inspired him.

Originally from Kinshasa, Mbemba dreamed of being an electrician as a kid but found success in football instead. He's known as 'Axe' for his strong defense.

Following his hero Vincent Kompany's path, Mbemba left home as a teenager to join Anderlecht. Kompany, who has Congolese roots, remains a big influence and advisor for Mbemba.

Mbemba fondly remembers his early days at Anderlecht, living and training with teammates who became like family.

He often returns to Belgium, where he met his wife through a friend. They had a memorable wedding despite the rainy weather.

Mbemba has been in Europe since 2013 and looks forward to his next adventure, which could lead him to the World Cup, much anticipated by his fans in DR Congo.
